Crabbing is like a sport in the Hampton roads , its actually a lot of fun catching those lil things. Its not very hard either . The hotter the weather , the better crab catch. Here's what I know , hope it helps you too this season !
1- get a crab net , cooler , some utility like string or cord, (all found at walmart) and some chicken bits- like a chicken neck or a leg .
2- find a great pier or If you have a inside scoop on a good crabbing spot -go
3- tie your chicken very well to the utility string, tight ! attach to basket
4- throw the basket overboard and wait a few minutes , try to pull the basket up straight as the crabs will try to jump out of your basket
5- use a bit of sea water in your cooler and dump the crabs in ! ( i'm a novice , I used tongs to get them off- yes I looked like a rookie but I didn't get pinched once)
PART 2- THE DEAD MAN AND COOKING CRABS ( working on this, when the season starts again in hot weather ).
Here's a great pier in Virginia Beach to start with .
